Sunday July 29th we will be celebrating how marvellous this Vancouver summer is by escaping the algae bloom and going to Tuwanek. A little info about Tuwanek for those who have never been. This site is situated north of Sechelt on the Sunshine coast so we will need to take the ferry to get there! This site is amazing as it’s sheltered from current and normally the visibility is great. We cannot promise great visibility, but we can promise a great time!
There are two side for that side a shallow island on the right hand side that doesn’t go deeper than 18 meters / 60 feet which is perfect for all skill levels. There is also a wall on the left hand side that goes deeper. The marine life that we can normally see there is vast, but among those wolf eels and moon snails are often seen in that area. A BBQ will be organized by the club including burgers, hotdogs and some light snack! At Tuwanek there is a dry toilet “port-o-potty”, but there is NO POTABLE WATER. It’s really hot these days so don’t forget you reusable water bottles.
As always gear rental is at a 50% discount for club dives. Please contact the shop at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit us in Rm 3125 in the Nest to sign up and/or arrange rentals. As always we are a student run shop, so we do not have a van. When signing up please let us know if you have a car and if you can take passengers or if you need a ride. Don’t forget some money for the driver and the ferry if you will be joining someone else’s car.
