Upcoming Dates for Discover Scuba Diving

Course Prerequisites

  • A sense of adventure!
  • Any participants ages 10 and over are welcome

Course Description

The experience begins at the UBC Aqua Society Dive Shop located in the lower level of the Student Life Building (right next to the UBC Aquatic Center Pool). There is ample secure parking in the nearby North Parkade as well as street meter parking. Public transit is also convenient as the SLB is also located right next to the UBC Bus loop.

Your certified and friendly PADI Diving Professional will begin with a dive briefing where you learn the basics of scuba diving equipment, underwater breathing techniques and underwater communication. We then head to the shallow-end of the pool, right next door, and learn how to properly don and adjust the Aqua Society’s high quality rental gear. Underwater, you learn key scuba diving techniques before having the opportunity to swim freely and enjoy the feeling of underwater weightlessness.

After a heaping dose of underwater fun, you and your dive buddies return to the shop for a debriefing, where skills and experience are reviewed and you learn how you can credit your newly acquired diving skills to the many opportunities at the Aqua Society for future dive training and certifications.
