Advance your Diving Skills

Maybe you completed your Open Water Diver Course in the tropics, and you want to begin exploring the variety of different types of diving here in Vancouver. The Advanced Open Water and Drysuit Diver Course combines two certifications, the PADI Advanced Open Water Certification and the Drysuit Diver certificaiton. This course is designed to train you to dive in a drysuit, so you can comfortably explore Canada's colder waters while enhancing your skills to give you a taste of different types of diving environments.

Course Prerequisites

• PADI Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization)
• Minimum age: 15 (12 for PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver)
• Last dive must be within ONE YEAR of begining of the course (if you do not meet this requirement, you are required to complete at least one refresher)

Course Description

You will complete a classroom and pool session on Wednesday night, where you will learn about drysuit diving and the equipment you will be using for the course. Then, you will get the chance to dive in a drysuit and practice some skills in the pool for an hour at the UBC Aquatic Center, which is 100m from our shop! After that, you will debreif on your experience with your instrcutor and discuss the details for your ocean dives over the weekend.

For your first day of diving, you will complete three required dives:

• Drysuit Training Dive
• Drysuit Fun Dive
• Peak Performance Bouyancy Dive

On your second ocean dive, you will complete your two other required dives and then complete an elective dive:

• Deep Dive
• Underwater Navigation Dive
• Elective Dive

Here, you can find a list of the elective dives discussed with your instructor, such as:

• Night Diver
• Wreck Diver
• Underwater Naturalist
• DSMB Diver
• Rescue Diver

These 6 ocean dives are conducted over one weekend. After these six dives, you’ll be a certified Drysuit and Advanced Open Water diver, more experienced, feel more comfortable in the water and simply enjoy diving more because you better understand the underwater environment.

• Scuba rental gear and materials provided* Divers need to provide their own personal gear (Mask, Snorkel, undergarments to wear under your drysuit)
• Instructors reserve the right to require you to complete more training dives after your first ocean dive if they beleive you require more practice before completeing the remainder of your Advanced Open Water dives (this is to ensure your and their safety, as safety is our priority at UBC Aqua Society)
